About this trip
Abu Dabbab is one of the best-known snorkeling spots in Marsa Alam on Egypt's Red Sea coast. The bay is shallow and sandy, with coral reefs at both ends and seagrass beds in between, so you snorkel straight from the beach. Easy entry, calm water and good visibility throughout the year make it suitable for beginners and experienced snorkelers.
Sea turtles and marine life
The main attraction is the green sea turtles that swim and feed on the seagrass very close to shore. With a bit of luck you may also see dugongs (sea cows), rays, moray eels and many colorful reef fish such as triggerfish, puffers and trevallies. The coral reefs on both sides of the bay are healthy and full of life.
The day
Pickup from your hotel in Marsa Alam or a nearby resort is in the morning, around 07:30–08:30, and you are back around 14:00–15:30. Guides help beginners and show you the best spots, and lunch is served on the beach. The bay has sunbeds and restrooms, and sometimes a beach cafe.
