About this trip
This two-day, one-night trip from Hurghada combines the temples and tombs of Luxor with a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the West Bank. You travel by private air-conditioned vehicle with an Egyptologist guide, spend the night at a hotel in Luxor, and see the Valley of the Kings and the surrounding desert from the air the next morning.
Day 1: Hurghada to Luxor
Pickup from your hotel in Hurghada is usually around 5:00 AM, followed by a drive of approximately 3–4 hours to Luxor. The day's visits include:
- Karnak Temple: a vast complex of temples, pylons and obelisks, one of the largest religious complexes ever built.
- Temple of Luxor: a beautifully preserved temple near the Nile, built mainly by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II.
- Valley of the Kings: the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs. Entry to some tombs costs extra.
- Temple of Queen Hatshepsut: the striking mortuary temple of Egypt's most successful female pharaoh.
- Colossi of Memnon: massive twin statues that once guarded a mortuary temple.
Lunch is at a local restaurant during sightseeing, and dinner may be provided in the evening. You then check in to your hotel in Luxor.
Day 2: Sunrise balloon flight and return
Pickup from your Luxor hotel is around 4:00–4:30 AM to reach the launch site before sunrise. The balloon floats for approximately 45–60 minutes over the West Bank at dawn, with bird's-eye views of the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, the Valley of the Queens, the Ramesseum, Habu Temple and more. A flight certificate is often given as a souvenir.
After the flight you return to the hotel for breakfast. Further visits may follow, for example the Luxor Museum, more time at Karnak or the Avenue of Sphinxes. After sightseeing and lunch, you travel back to Hurghada, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
