Aswan – Abu Simbel by private limousine, 2 days, $145 from Hurghada (tour duration from 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM, daily). Children under 5 are free, and ages 5 to 11 receive a 50% discount.
Day 1. The journey to Aswan in a comfortable, air-conditioned car will take no more than 8 hours. Aswan is one of the most beautiful cities in Egypt. The scorching sands of the Libyan desert, green groves of gardens, and the blue Nile will leave you captivated. In Aswan, you will see the unfinished obelisk and the Aswan High Dam, whose observation deck offers a unique view of Lake Nasser. Lunch at a restaurant (drinks are extra). Then you will visit Philae Island in the middle of the Nile, where, according to ancient Egyptian belief, Osiris was buried. A temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor is located here. Accommodation at a 3-star hotel in Aswan, where you can relax and have dinner.
Day 2. After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll travel to Abu Simbel, where you’ll learn about the history of the ancient Temple of Ramses II. Its 20-meter-tall statues frame the entrance to the temple and have become as much a symbol of Egypt as the Pyramids and the Sphinx. The first rays of the sun, illuminating the façade, penetrate the halls of the temple and its sanctuary. At its far end are statues of the gods and a figure of Pharaoh Ramses II himself. Twice a year (on his birthday and coronation day), the rays of the rising sun illuminate the statues of the gods and the Pharaoh himself, making him appear to smile. Only the figure of the god Ptah is never touched by the rays, for he is the god of darkness and must remain there. Lunch at a restaurant (drinks are extra), a visit to the bazaars and shops, and return to Hurghada. Tickets to all the historical sites listed are included in the tour price.
